A skilled retina-trained board certified ophthalmologist since 1999, Dr. Peter Livingston was the first ophthalmologist in ArkLaMiss to embrace Avastin injections for AMD, diabetes and retinal vascular disease, sutureless vitrectomies, and endoscopic vitrectomies. By making use of innovative procedures and the latest technologies in eye care, he aims to provide you with the compassionate and personal eye care you need.
He practiced in Louisiana for 10 years and was the founder of the N.E. Louisiana Low Vision Group. Prior to completing his residency and fellowship at USF in Tampa in 1999, he was a published researcher and author in viral immunology and he also adopted the INOFFICE vitrectomy techniques using the Innovit system.
Dr. Livingston’s office is equipped with lasers and a minor treatment room for emergent procedures. This allows many retinal detachment repairs, and much more to be performed in-office instead of a surgery center. His skill and knowledge in his field of expertise make him stand out from other ophthalmologists. He is also, an on-call ophthalmologist for most Manatee and Sarasota county hospitals.
Dr. Livingston is well known and looked up to for his efficiency and strong character. His family accountant, Elbert Via is grateful to Dr. Livingston for saving his vision. Just when he had given up hope and was going to sell his practice due to impending blindness, he trusted Dr. Livingston to save his eyesight and livelihood. Elbert Via is one of the many patients Dr. Livingston has successfully impacted.
The person who most influenced him to treat diabetic eye disease was his father, Curt, who suffered many lifelong complications from diabetes. The impersonal eye care his father often received convinced Dr. Livingston that he needed to create a patient-centered approach to retinal care.
Dr. Livingston, his wife Lisa and family reside locally.
